What does it take to be a student leader?

This is not only a question for the candidates while preparing their presentation for the election speech, but also for the students and teachers while making their decision in the voting process.

Our new student leadership team for 2023 was officially onboarded in January. Each of them possesses unique skillsets and personalities that enable them to take on the new role as a Head Student or a Deputy Head Student.

DHZH STUDENT LEADER 2023

Isabella L (Y12)

  • 2023 Head Student
  • 2022 Deputy Head Student
  • Founder of the DHZH Ladder Public (student-led charity organisation)

Please use three words to describe yourself as a student leader

"Enthusiastic, adventurous and supportive.

I am a person who always likes to try out new things and combinations of different possibilities, as well as meet and work with different people. I also enjoy helping students with the problems they are facing, and I guess that is one of the key reasons that I have received recognition and support as a member of the DHZH Student Council and have been staying in the Student Voice Department though out my whole high school life."

What does the role Student Leader mean to you?

"I do believe that a student leader is the bridge between student and teacher communities. Sometimes students may find it difficult to ask for help or express themselves clearly, and on the other hand, teachers sometimes find it challenging to know the different sides of the students."

What’s your plan for the student community or the school during your tenure?

"I will work with the Global Citizenship Department of the Student Council to promote “equality and equity” throughout the year. Also, we new student leaders are planning to host more interesting student activities, because I found that some students study extremely hard, but the high school experience is not only about academic performance. I want to create a more positive and engaging environment for all students, to enhance their passion for study and holistic development."

Daniel L (Y12)

  • 2023 Head Student
  • former House Captain of Wing House
  • Founder of the DHZH Fashion CCA (student-led CCA)
  • Head of Event Organisation team of 2022 Student Council

Please use three words to describe yourself as a student leader

"Responsible, persistent and creative.

A sense of responsibility is the basic condition for a leader. That is why I put it as the first character for myself in this important role, as well as one of the goals I have been committed to. Also, I am a person who is not afraid of setbacks. While growing up as a teenager, I experienced a lot of failures, either in competitions, or in the application of different roles. But every time I failed, I would learn from it and see my chance for improvement, which led me to become better of who I am now. As an art student who would like to pursue architecture as a career in the future, I would further apply my creativity and project management skills for the student community to have more happy and impressive memories with Dulwich Zhuhai."

What does the role Student Leader mean to you?

"It is a recognition as well as an encouragement for me. I am very happyto be selected and supported by teachers and students, because they have mademe who I am today, as well as their trust in me that I am capable to serve and leadthe student body. This is also an opportunity to practice and accumulate myleadership skills. "

What’s your plan for the student community or the school during your tenure?

"I would like to focus more on public welfare activities. As a Dulwich student, our success should not be measured with personal academic performance only, but at the same time, also how we care for others and for the community. My plan is to inspire more thinking and discussion of the social issues and events of our community, and make positive changes to build a better place where we all live together. I will also be devoted to Student Voice, strengthening the communication for students with teachers and with the school, which is also in line with the core value of Dulwich Zhuhai - Students Comes First. Wish we all can grow and achieve more together, with all peer students, as well as our teachers and staff."

  • Member of Public Relations team, 2022 Student Council

"Enthusiastic, communicative and reliable.

I consider myself enthusiastic because I have a strong passion for helping others, which allows me to stay motivated at work and feel accomplished. I greatly enjoy collaboration and communication as well, as it often offers me the opportunity to learn from others. Finally, I would describe myself as a reliable person, because I always stick to my commitments and try my best."

What does the role Student Leader mean to you?

"Taking on the leadership role is not only a responsibility, but also a motivation for me to make further progress. Being a student leader, I have to perform well and improve constantly, both academically and behaviourally, to be a role model for the student community. To carry out the role of a Deputy Student, I hope to support all students to grow together and achieve mutual development."

What’s your plan for the student community or the school during your tenure?

"I am planning to introduce some business and economics projectsfor students to practice our knowledge and extend our horizons beyond classroom. At the same time, I will also look into public service activities for students to build the connection with the community with compassion and empathy, and to make positive contribution."

I hope we could get to know each other more and exchange more ideas for a fun and engaging high school experience."
