Congratulations to Our Brilliant Mathematicians

Dulwich International High School Zhuhai (DHZH) yet again established itself as a school for academic excellence with a large number of talented mathematicians successfully competed the United Kingdom Maths Trust (UKMT) Senior Maths Challenge and the Canadian Caribou Maths Contest.

UKMT Maths Challenge is a world renowned and prestigious Maths competition. The 3 levels cover secondary school age and together they attract over 600,000 entries from over 4,000 schools and colleges in the UK and around the world every year. 

This year, a total 71 students had been awarded with certificates from the UKMT, with 6 Gold, 25 Silver and 40 Bronze at DHZH. Leading the way were our Year 12 student Jack C and Lycoris L with an outstanding score of 105 out of 125. Both of them received Gold Certificates, Best in Year Award and Best in School Award. The following students also managed to secure Gold certificates for their excellent efforts and accomplishment; they are Kevin X, Louis W, Helen C and Tom M.

Special mention must go to our youngest candidates, Essen Q, Emmalia W and Rachael H in Year 10, who volunteered to take part in this competition and all received Silver certificates.

The Canadian Caribou Maths Contest is another international online Maths contest held six times over the year. Top-scoring students can earn cash prizes and also scholarships from the Brock University in Canada.  The contest this year attract over 65,000 entries from 36 countries and 926 schools. 

This is the first time DHZH has taken part in this contest and we have successfully completed the first 2 rounds.  So far, 11 students are now in the top 20% world ranking with Essen Q (Top 4%), Jack C (Top 5%), Lulu T (Top 6%) and Emmalia W (Top 9%).

Our students have achieved fantastic results and we are very proud of them. The idea behind the challenge is to practice mathematical thinking and applications, rather than just to tackle the style of questions found in textbooks. The level of thinking required is also suitable for many degree subjects and these kinds of achievements will also add value to students’ university applications.
